Club History
The club was first set up in the early nineties as the “Dublin University Gridiron Society”. It went on to play flag football under the name “Trinity Thunderbolts” for one season but unfortunately the society didn’t last due to lack of numbers and interest. In 2007 the club was reinstated by the now club captain Conor O’Shea.
In their first year of full contact football the Thunderbolts went straight into the newly formed 2008 DV-8 development league with a huge will to do well. The team were often short players with a very small base from early on but this didn't deter them from playing competitively at every one of their matches. The season started out with two tough matches against the one of the toughest teams in the competition in the Craigavon Cowboys. Next came the Dublin Rebels, the eventual competition winners. The team got the game off to a good start but unfortunately couldn't hold off the Rebels. The fourth game of the season then proved to be our proudest moment with a 51-20 win over the Dublin Dragons. The Thunderbolts then lost to the Cork Admirals and the Rebels again to leave them at 1-5. Overall the team was very proud with how much they developed and learned in year one and and can't wait to come back for more!
Also, here are some of our very first posters from way back when, and also a copy of our constitution for those of you who are interested.
